Here is an explanation of the fabrics, ribbons & clasps you can choose from, as well as the available colours, patterns & shapes.
When ordering, make sure to specify which material and which colour/pattern you want – as well as a backup colour/pattern when it comes to fabrics, if possible.
I do not carry any stock myself, which allows for a broader range of patterns and colours, but this means that the availability of a specific material depends on the manufacturer’s stock. I work with SELFMADE and KORPS. Pretty much anything on their sites (that is suitable for the garment in question) is available to order, but as their stock/availability changes I’ve included links to their respective websites so you can check what’s in stock when you’re ordering.
FABRICS
Options for every budget
From inexpensive polar fleece to luxurious wool, KOMUDESIGNS has options for everyone.
POLAR FLEECE
Polar fleece is light, soft, elastic and voluminous. It has a high thermal insulating effect, while the fabric is robust and durable. In addition, it has had an anti-pill treatment done to it to reduce pilling. For a winter skirt, this is the cheapest option. It keeps away snow and cold relatively well, though it performs best when it is dry out. The fabric is lab-tested and free of unhealthy chemicals. Purchased from Selfmade. Polar fleece – 100% polyester, 399g / m.
Advantages:
+ Cheap
+ Easy to wash
+ Good for those who are allergic to wool
Drawbacks:
– Even with the surface treatment, the fabric changes texture after some time.
– Not environmentally friendly
– Not as warm, nor as good at repelling moisture as wool
– Few patterned options

RECYCLED WOOL
This wool fabric (wadmal) is a fabric designed to protect our environment. During the manufacturing of the fabric, the manufacturer has strict requirements for materials, dyes and other chemicals. The fabric is lab-tested to ensure that it contains no harmful chemicals.
In this woollen fabric, short fibres make the surface “rougher” after use and washing. Wool fabric in dark and saturated colours like black, red and blue can dry shed. Purchased from KORPS. 100% Recycled wool material, 365g / sqm.
Advantages:
+ Warm
+ Breathes and wicks moisture
+ Better than polar fleece when it comes to snow and wet weather
+ Environmentally friendly
Drawbacks:
– Dark / strong colours can shed at the beginning
– Should not be washed frequently

PATTERNED RECYCLED WOOL – HERRINGBONE/HOUNDSTOOTH/TWILL
The fabric has been lab-tested to ensure that it contains no harmful chemicals. It has the same weight and properties as solid colour wool and is made out of 100% recycled wool material. Wool fabric in dark and saturated colours like black, red and blue can dry shed. Purchased from KORPS. 100% Recycled wool material, 360g / sqm.
Width of herringbone: Approx 2 cm. Width of houndstooth pattern: Approx 1.5 cm

The fabric has been lab-tested to ensure that it contains no harmful chemicals. It has the same weight and properties as solid-colour wool and is made out of 100% recycled wool material. Fine, thin wool fabrics of strong quality. Can be machine washed on the wool cycle/30C. It contains nylon fibres to make the wool extra strong.
Thinner than the recycled wool fabrics, suitable for slightly warmer winters. Purchased from KORPS. 60% Wool 40% Nylon, 280-320g / sqm.
Advantages:
+ Good even when it is a little warmer out
+ Environmentally friendly
+ Many patterns to choose from
Drawbacks:
– Thinner than the recycled wool fabrics
– Should not be washed frequently

Fine, thin wool fabrics of strong quality. Can be machine washed on the wool cycle/30C. It contains nylon fibres to make the wool extra strong.

FINE WADMAL (WOOL)
Fine wadmal is KORPS’ finest wool fabric, woven in medium fulled flexible twill where the weave structure is still visible. The surface has a soft uncut pile and the density is similar to the recycled wool fabric, but this fine wadmal is of much higher quality. It is more densely woven and is made of 100% pure new wool. Purchased from KORPS. 100% pure new wool, 370g / sqm.
Advantages:
+ By far the warmest
+ Keeps away wet snow better than recycled wool
+ The most luxurious option, but also the most durable
+ Environmentally friendly
Drawbacks:
– Heavy
– Wash in cold water

Soft, comfortable and suitable for everyday life. Easy on the skin when used as lining in collars. Purchased from Selfmade. Organic fabric that’s ethically grown and made. 100% organic cotton, 216g-255g / sqm.

LINEN
Washed linen is soft and comfortable against the skin. It’s also pretty, cool and has a light feel. Purchased from KORPS. 100% European flax, 185g / sqm. OEKO-TEX class II fabric that’s ethically grown and made.

+ Environmentally friendly

CLASPS

CLASPS
Clasps from both Selfmade (S) and KORPS (K). Below are the names, total length (when the clasp is hooked together) and price per clasp. The silver clasps from KORPS are brass plated with real (999) silver! The prices below is for a complete skirt, not price per clasp.
NOTE – due to delivery issues from subcontractors the selection of clasps is a lot narrower and availability varies – let me know if you can’t find something you like and we’ll try to come up with some other alternatives for you from somewhere else!

SATIN RIBBONS 15 MM
Ribbons from Selfmade. 15 mm wide satin ribbons. These ribbons are tightly woven with a nice sheen. These ribbons are lab-tested and free from any harmful chemicals. 100% polyester.

SKIRT RIBBON
Ribbons for the Half Circle Riding & Walking Skirt. Choose the one from the same supplier as your fabric. Both are made from unbleached natural materials. The one from SELMMADE is 100% cotton and the one from KORPS is 100% linen.
